There is nothing that nurtures like a good hearty bowl of soup and Hofbrau,  vendors at Zerns for forty five years, makes one of the best soups around.

Stand owner, Joanna Weiser, one of seven children born on the family farm  in East Greenville, near Clayton, married a Boyertown man and has been sharing her homemade soups and salads at Zerns since 1975, when she bought Hofbrau from her mother –who purchased it from Little Richard in 1972. The whole family has grown up working there. Daughter Debbie is a customer favorite.

 Soups are a specialty At Hofbrau,  and we love all the flavors in Joanna’s pepper beef soup and how well they meld together. We don’t know the secret spices blend, but it includes diced fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes,  red pepper, brown sugar and onion fried with ground beef,  minced onion, green peppers and beef broth. Rice adds a nice texture and the final result translates as real country comfort in a bowl! You can buy a takeaway container, a 6 oz or 12 oz, or sit at the counter for a steaming hot bowl.

Our manager Stacey loves the tuna pasta salad – – a large portion for $1.65, and you can also order chicken noodle soup or the famous Hofbrau homemade chili. Visit Joanna at Hofbrau, Stand 213, East Wing, accessible from Doors 13 and 5. Zerns Farmers Market.
